Grade 3 CogAt and IOWA Testing has been postponed for the 2020-2021 school year. Testing will occur during the 2021-2022 school year for students in grades 3 and 4.
IDENTIFICATION PROCESS. Wake County Public School System administers the CogAt to all 3rd grade students. Students who attain a CogAt composite or subtest score at or above the 85th percentile will be eligible to take the Iowa Assessment (ITBS). After taking the Iowa Assessment, students who score at or above the 95th percentile on the CogAt and Iowa will be considered for referral to the School Based Committee for Gifted Education (SBCGE). The SBGCE will proceed in determining if the student should be identified.
COGAT (COGNITIVE ABILITIES TEST) This is an Aptitude test that reveals intellectual ability (the student’s capacity for learning).
ITBS (IOWA TEST OF BASIC SKILLS) This is an achievement test which shows acquired knowledge.
